Half Off: Get the Best Deals and Find the Best Sales
People look for bargains when they shop for just about anything these days. With everything from clothing to vacations and trips available to purchase online, in some cases, you can find better deals on half off sales by searching the Internet, rather than by fighting crowds in stores.
Most people will agree that Internet shopping has very few drawbacks. In fact, one of the only disadvantages is that, unlike in-store shopping, you must wait a few days to receive your purchases. In contrast, online shopping has a number of advantages besides just helping you avoid busy stores. Many sites offer:
- free returns
- free shipping
- more variety (Online retailers can usually draw from many warehouses, whereas a store can only offer what it has in stock.)
- prices that compete with stores.
These perks of Internet shopping can oftentimes more than make up for the inconvenience of having to wait a few days for your merchandise.
In this section, we'll cover all aspects of half off Internet sales and Internet shopping. We'll discuss comparison shopping, shopping comparison reviews and more.

Online Auctions
Online auctions are great places to find anything you're looking for at highly discounted prices. Auction sites online literally feature everything you could want, including anything from out-of-print comic books to new and used clothing items to funeral plots. Ebay is one of the most popular online auction sites. As you bid on auction items, keep in mind, however, that you will still have to add in the cost of shipping. Sometimes, the cost of shipping may be so excessive that it counteracts the deal you may be getting on the item itself. |
Half Off Sales
Many retail stores offer half off sales through online. In some cases, alternate retailers who only exist as online businesses may offer top brand and other designer items for way less than their traditional retail competitors do.
Some of the most popular items that can be found for half off (or at greatly discounted prices) online include:
- clothing
- electronics
- jewelry
- personal finance and insurance items
- shoes
- toys
- vacation packages
- video games.
This is by no means an all-inclusive list. Online retailers often have a slew of shopping categories you can browse through as you visit their sites.
Internet Comparison Shopping
Internet comparison shopping is much easier than comparison shopping in person. You don't have to waste time, energy and gas going from store to store and searching for a specific item.
To start Internet comparison shopping, simply type your desired item's name into a search engine (i.e. Yahoo, Google, etc.) and wait for online store entries to come up. View the prices on different sites and choose the best option. As you compare prices of various online retailers, don't forget to take into account any taxes or shipping charges. These charges can occasionally make an online bargain price less of a bargain than you think.
If shipping charges significantly increase the cost of your online purchase, then use Internet comparison shopping to see which store to visit to get the best price on your item. Search for retailers in your area, visit their Web sites and check out their prices on your item.
Once you locate the retailer with the best price, be sure to call ahead to make sure your item is available at the desired store location and not just online. Often, if the item is out of stock at your location, the store may be able to transfer the item from another store at no charge to you. Alternatively, if you need the item right away, the store's personnel will be able to tell you whether or not other stores have your item in stock.
Some retailers' Web sites feature search options that will tell you at which store locations you can find the specific item you want to buy.
Shopping Comparison Reviews
Many sites also offer shopping comparison reviews. These will tell you which stores and sites generally offer the best prices. However, they will also tell you:
- which sites charge the highest and lowest for shipping
- which sites charge you tax
- which sites have the best and worst customer service
- which sites have the best and worst return policies
- which sites ship items quickly and slowly.
This is by no means an all-inclusive list. Shopping comparison reviews on some of these sites can also give you a consumer's perspective of the usefulness or quality of different items.
